Look closely and you'll see a whole flock of wide-eyed, cartoon roosters — yellow beaks thrown open mid-crow, goggle eyes rimmed in white, and wild crests of flame in orange, red, and hot pink — tumbling across a deep cobalt-blue ground scattered with golden stars. The quilting itself is dense and swirling, with flowing feather-like stitched lines that give every rooster a sense of ruffled, joyful motion. Fabric appliqué layers build each bird up so they practically leap off the surface. Claire and Riley — two sisters keeping the Cape May shop their mother Margaret opened in 1978 — hand-select every bag that comes through the door, and this is exactly the kind of piece they can't resist: exuberant craft you simply won't see anywhere else.

• Dense Swirl Quilting — Fine curving quilt lines loop across every inch of the bag in a feather-and-wave pattern that keeps the structured barrel shape firmly intact through heavy use.
• The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
• Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.
