A whole pack running, and none of them standing still

Look closely and you'll find a whole pack of dachshunds running every which way across this cylindrical traveler — navy, teal, purple, orange, golden yellow, burgundy, and a soft dove grey, each long-bodied silhouette appliquéd onto a warm saffron-and-amber quilted ground. The quilting itself is done in a dense, looping cloud pattern that gives the surface a satisfying, pillow-like texture you can feel from across the room. The handles carry the same exuberant spirit, pieced together in strips of patterned fabric in deep blue, pink, and rust. Claire and Riley found this piece for the shop they've kept going since their mother Margaret opened it in Cape May back in 1978 — and like every bag they choose, this one had to earn its spot on the floor by being genuinely hard to put down.

• A Pack, Not a Print — Each dachshund is individually appliquéd rather than printed, so the edges are raised and the silhouettes cast tiny soft shadows against the quilted ground.
• Details — 19" × 9" × 9", roomy enough for a long weekend and soft enough to squash into a car boot.
• Cloud-Stitch Quilting — The dense, looping cloud quilting covers every inch of the background, making the bag structured enough to hold its barrel shape even when it's not fully packed.
• Pieced Statement Handles — The handles are assembled from mismatched strips of coordinating fabric — navy fish-scale, pink floral, rust check — so no two sides of the bag read quite the same.
• The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
• Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.

You're pulling this off the baggage carousel in a grey terminal and, before you even reach for it, the woman next to you has already said something about the dogs.
