Starfish, shells, and a tide that never settles

This duffle is built around a coastal scene you can practically feel: a raised, textured starfish in warm coral and amber anchors the left panel, surrounded by a scatter of quilted seashells — scallops, spiraling whelks, and fan shells in creamy ivory, dusty rose, and sun-baked orange. The sandy lower half of the bag gives way to sweeping waves of blue and teal across the upper panels, stitched in flowing, circular quilting lines that ripple like actual water. The two-tone blue handles carry the wave palette right through to your grip. Claire and Riley found this piece the same way they find everything for the shop — by looking for the thing that stops you mid-step. They've been doing that here in Cape May since they took over the store their mother Margaret opened in 1978, and this bag is exactly the kind of find she would have loved too.

• Raised Starfish Appliqué — The coral and amber starfish on the front left panel is built up in dimensional appliqué, so it catches the light and casts a soft shadow just like a real one drying on a dock.
• Details — 19" × 9" × 9", roomy enough for a long weekend and soft enough to squash into a car boot.
• Wave Quilting Throughout — The upper panels are stitched in wide, concentric swirling lines that follow the curve of each wave, giving the bag a sense of motion even when it's sitting still.
• Full Coastal Shell Scatter — Scallops, fan shells, and spiral whelks in warm ivory and terracotta are appliquéd across all three body panels, so the design wraps all the way around rather than fading on the sides.
• The Last of This Run — We took what the workshop had left. Once these are gone we will not be getting them again.
• Looking After Her — Spot clean with a soft damp cloth and let her air dry. No tumble dryer — it flattens the quilting.
