At the center of this barrel-style traveler is a full-bodied dachshund rendered in deep navy and black quilted appliqué, his tan muzzle, chest, paws, and eyebrow dots picked out in warm amber and burnt orange. The quilting lines follow the curve of his body — you can see them rippling across his back and along his low, long belly — giving him surprising dimension for something flat to the touch. He sits against a patchwork ground of ivory, golden yellow, burgundy, and cream panels pieced together in varying sizes, with floral prints, a subtle geometric, and a tone-on-tone texture mixed throughout. The matching handles carry a narrow printed stripe that echoes the same warm palette. Claire and Riley — sisters running the Cape May shop their mother Margaret opened in 1978 — chose this bag themselves, the way they choose everything: because it made them stop and look twice.
